Envelope

  • the building is designed with a long term longevity in mind, therefore future options for heating a dwelling have to be considered. A well insulated envelope will omit space heat during the shoulder seasons and will require minimal heating during the winter months
  • resulting higher indoor wall surfaces temperatures (e.g. 19ºC versus common 16ºC) allow for lower air temperatures to achieve the same level of comfort. The result are significant savings in heating fuel expenses. High thermal mass on the inside of the envelope improves energy conservation even further
  • a breathable envelope with reduced thermal breaks eliminates the condensation problems that challenge the moisture management in conventional ‘tight’ buildings
